I’ve owned Logos Bible Software for well over 10 years and I love it. It has a massive about of materials available and now allows you to create and add you own files to work with. The real power of the software (in my opinion) is how it links and connects materials from numerous sources quickly, allowing the user to research a topic while at the same time exploring the subject from angles they may not have without the connections. This linking mechanism not only aids in research and learning, it is also a huge time saver.
About a year ago, Logos decided to increase the amount of Catholic resources available for the platform. Andrew Jones was hired as the full-time Catholic Project Manager and a number of Catholic Base Packages were soon introduced. This of course started an uproar in parts of the Protestant world (some of it being pretty harsh) with one of Logos’ competitors BibleWorks (though to two differ in some important areas) assured that they would not be wooing Catholics anytime soon. But that’s another story.
I had recently received the green light from my wonderful wife to purchase one of the Catholic Base Packages. Looking at the thre options (Catholic Foundations Library, Catholic Scripture Study Library, and the Catholic Scholar’s Library) my budget allowed me to just reach the Catholic Scripture Study Library. But after looking around, I also noticed that there was another collection which was slightly cheaper that seemed to have a lot of overlap with the Catholic Scripture Study Library called the Catholic Library Builder.
Now since I had already long ago purchased a Logos base library, either library was an option for me. The Catholic Library Builder is a group of Catholic resources that would be added to an existing base package while the Catholic Scripture Study Library would also include the base software. So if you currently do not own a Logos base package, you really should go for the Catholic Scripture Study Library. But if you do, then the following may be of some interest to you.
While Logos has a very nice comparison of the three Catholic Base Libraries, it does not have one of the Catholic Scripture Study Library and the Catholic Builder Library. I sat down and created my own comparison and found that going with the Catholic Scripture Study Library really ended up being the obvious choice for me.
So I hope that someone may find the following information helpful, and for those considering purchasing a software study system for Catholics, I wholeheartedly recommend and endorse Logos.
Comparison of the Catholic Scripture Study Library (CSSL) and the Catholic builder Library (CBL).
